Brian has been representing the Tarheel Trailblazers as the Park & Rec. Greenway Liaison since 1996. This position is in place to make sure that the mountain bike community is informed of any changes and/or additions with regards to trail use issues in any of Mecklenburg County's parks and greenways. This position is also important in keeping park and greenway planners well informed of all ongoing projects that the Trailblazers are working on or planning in the near future. How mountain bikers are perceived has a great deal of impact in our future growth. With that in mind, one of the biggest goals that Brian strives for is having every mountain biker follow the I.M.B.A. rules of the trail, leaving a positive impression with every person that encounters a rider.
Brian is also involved in other aspects of the Trailblazers including: trail maintenance, kiosk and bridge construction, race volunteer, grant writing and chipping in with other miscellaneous behind the scenes activities.
Having been raised in western Pennsylvania and moving to Charlotte in August of 1990, Brian takes advantage of the mild North Carolina climate. The mountain biking bug bit him hard in 1992 when a friend introduced him to the sport and shortly afterwards they met the Tarheel Trailblazers Founder, Mr. Jack Crouch. That's all she wrote… as the hobby quickly grew into an obsession. Over the years Brian has put many miles under his wheels, mainly recreationally with friends and on occasion, competitively.
Some of the other outdoor activities he enjoys outside of mountain biking are camping, backpacking, paddling his canoe or kayak, snow skiing and cruising the scenic byways on one of his motorcycles. Other hobbies include music, photography, gardening and grilling out with friends and family at home.
When not enjoying the great outdoors you'll find Brian at work behind a UNIX work station at Siemens-Westinghouse Power Corporation. There since 1990, he works in the Steam Turbine Engineering Department as a senior design draftsman, creating production drawings and layouts for various steam turbine components. Since 1997 Brian has also worked part time (on & off) in bicycle sales at Bike Source.
Brian lives in southwest Charlotte with his extremely patient and understanding wife, Lisa, and the love of his life, Murphy, their spoiled golden retriever.
