I've riddeen this trial on and off for about 11 years. I recently took a 3 year break from it since it's a 45 min. drive from my house. I remember enjoying it a lot, but was dissapointed this past ride. Some of the steep sections are very washed and tricky, the twisty woods sections were boring, and I cleared out 100+ spiderwebs. The only other people I saw out there were guys on big hit bikes. It definitely is the best trail around for natural and manmade jumps, but compared to other area trails, i rank it low on the cross-country scale...especially after paying $3. Maybe Sherman Branch has spoiled me too much?? |

Fun trail. Most of the options are fun; some of them are tight slow single track (not my style) but the rest are fun with drops, jumps, etc. Devils drop is just a big rooty hill but its a thriller if you've got the guts. Gravity Cavity is pretty sweet. I highly suggest this trial to anyone. |

What a great trail. With all the options it makes for a great ride. They just added another section to this trail after the vortex that just makes this trail one of the best in the area. You better save up some energy to get up the last option... It's a rock filled goat climb. Have fun. |

Very fun place to ride. Devils drop is not as bad as it looks from the top. Gravity Cavity has a nice hip that is very fun to jump. Try to hit the short drop that is loaded with rocks, it is probably the most challenging aspect of the trail (other than the trials section if you can do it). |

| Opinions: |
This is my favorite local trail. If you can ride this trail comfortably then you can handle most of what this area has to offer. It doesn't let you flow through quickly like Sherman, but it keeps you working over the roots to attempt to keep momentum. After all trails like this is why you spend the money on a nice bike in the first place. The pump area and obstacles are great. The "Shortcut if You Can," toward the end was modified a few weeks back with carpet. It is easier to get up the hill and I guess it helps with the soil erosion that was plagueing that area before. There is a new berm toward the end of the single track area (after Devil's Drop and before the Luge) that flows really nicely. The Luge is a great little downhill area with some OK berms to keep your speed up. They have added some packed gravel randomly throughout the trail for some good jumps. The seesaw and raised platform about halfway through are fun and not as daunting as you may think at first glimpse. Gravity Cavity is a blast and my favorite part. Definately worth $3 to ride and don't be a jerk and skimp on the family that takes care of this for us to enjoy. Ride safe and have a blast on this one. |

| Opinions: |
I'd definitely classify myself as an intermediate rider. I wasn't pleased with Poplar Tent. We had a moderate rain over four days prior (with sun and warm weather each day afterwards) and the trails were still soaking wet, especially many of the options. I don't know why, but this trail refuses to dry out when other trails in the area are perfect. I found the markers to be a bit ambiguous. Hard to stick on the main loop. Not enough flow in the entire system. Good for some technical parts and some killer climbs. Just not a trail that you have too much fun on. Great trail for those who love obstacles. They have some great rocks, see-saw, jumps, etc. Just not nearly my favorite in the Charlotte area. I doubt I'll give them another try. |

I would have to say the best trail around here. Had a little of everything steap drops, man made features, and jumps. Some of the downhill sections need to be opened up. Don't be scared to make them wider. I know people will go faster but thats the point. Hit devils drop I was expecting a real drop but just a steap section. Pushed back up and was able to get some air off one of the roots. Overall worth the trip out there. |

Trail is good for where we are. If you've ever ridden outside of flat Charlotte you know it's a very easy trail however it's the only thing close to technical around. Everything around the area is so groomed that it's nice to feel some bumps. I see a lot of people w/ downhill rigs out there? There is nothing at Poplar that a simple hardtail can't handle. Leave the downhill bike at home for this one or get your money back if you bought it to ride only trails in the Charlotte area. |

Nice setup. After riding the Sherman for a few weeks I ventured out to this trail. Wow! This trail has everything and more. I thought it might get confusing with all the trails inside and around the main loop, but the red arrows show you the way. It's the most technical trail I've ridden. Some of the option trails have nice "surprises". Devils Drop looked quite intimidatiing at first, but I had to try it...Success! I'll be back and I'm bringing some friends. |

Main Loop with Devil's drop and some extras. |
| Opinions: |
If you like being beaten to death on an unmaintained trail then this is for you. It has to be the roughest most technical trail in Charlotte with DANGEROUS obstacles. You ride up a bridge expecting to just ride back down, but NO, there's a 5 foot drop off. I'd suggest riding the entire loop before you try anything. It's very unpredicable. I bet there's more broken bones on this trail than any in Charlotte. Also, if it's rained within the past 72 hours forget about it. It was extremely muddy if you ventured off the main trail and it hasn't rained in 48 hours. |

The Andrews have really hooked this place up! Lots of hard work has paid off. I started riding here 8yrs ago and things have definetly improved. Poplar gives you really fun techy stuff like the quick Vortex, Devils Drop,Gravity Cavity, fun rock gardens, the little down hill spine next to the creek, fun rocky rooted switch back climbs and fun little bridge drops and throw in a couple of skinnys. They have recently put in a small Teeter Toter and a few other little bridge drops. In comparison to other local rides, this is hands down the funnest! If you like this type of riding it is a ton of fun. If you are a begginer and first timer probably be walking alot. Heck you can even play around out in the front with the 2-4 ft. singles and doubles. I hope they continue to add more fun obsticles and options. |

Hey, I appreciate all the hard work and sweat equity that has been put into the trail lately. My one request is to take it easy on going too far. Tent has always offered some of the best rugged riding around town. It gives the area the variety from many of the over engineered, groomed trails. Keep Tent safe, but don't turn it into another "made for single-speed, hardtail, and/or 29er only" trail. Keep Tent a lttle wild, at least the optionals. Variety is the spice of Charlotte. |

This trail is my home trail,(meaning it's the one I learned to Mtnbike on, and I live 10 min away) I have ridden everything there and it's great, but it is not a begginers trail!!! Pay attention when riding, because some parts have erosion! There were 3 very serious wrecks(2 at least hospital bound) the last day I rode, by very skilled riders. Maybe, it was just a bad day, because the trails aren't scary or dangerous unless you don't pay attention. Like my friend says, mtn biking is a controlled fall. But this trail is SUPER fun and does have alot of great options for cross country and free riders from intermediate and plus. Sign in, wear a helmut, ride with a friend and go to town |

outstanding trail! One that Charlotte and the Trailblazers should be proud of. Being from out of state and riding solo, I was appreciative that the trail was so well marked. Some areas of the trail are handlebar wide and the drop offs, tight turns, logs and bridges were a blast for a wide open desert cross country hucker. I stayed off the 'NorthShore' stuff because there was no one there to carry my carcass out. I wish I had time to ride it at night. Suitable and fun for all skill levels. |

This trail is awesome!! The trails are packed into dense forest and for the 5 miles of main trail you are never more than 1/2 mile from the lot! Alot to offer whether you are XC to Freeride/North Shore. Plenty of decent size rocks incorporated into parts of the trails. There are many sections to challenge your skills: Devils Drop(50- 60ft @ 40 degrees - often muddy), Rock Dam, Gravity Cavity(try to keep your rig on the ground!), several nameless rock gardens right on the main trail. Trail holds water in certain places, definitely give it 24hrs after rainfall. Of all the options, "Singletrack" was the slowest due to many roots. Would recommend beginners take it easy and maybe buddy up on your first several runs. Many thanks to the land owners - excellent management of the trails and it appears the $ we spend goes back into the trail! |

Compared to the other trails in Charlotte, in my opinion, I thought Poplar Tent was the most technical of all. There are some very tricky climbs that are loaded with roots and other objects determined to knock you off your path. I took a couple of beginners here and they had a very difficult time managing the terrain. Granted, Catawba may have longer climbs and faster downhills, but in order to become a well-rounded rider, it's necessary to go to places like Poplar Tent. The trails are very well maintained also and seem to drain better after rain than say, Renaissance. |

If there is a short coming it would be a lack of long hill climbs. As a frequent visitor I break the monotony by using the service road to interconnect favorite sections. |

Very nice trail. This is my first trail ridden in NC, I just moved here from Mass. and I have ridden quite a bit in New England, Virginia, West Virginia, and Florida. The trails were hard packed clay with a few roots here and there. Some of the trails are very tight and good for honing your balance and agility. I think that the main trail is good for beginners to intermediate and the options are good for intermediate to advanced. There are some areas where I would not take a beginner and some I would not even take an intermediate (Devil's Drop). Overall it was a very fast exciting ride and I was happy to pay the $2.00. |

Great riding for beginner to advance. The course is tight in some areas and you do have to deal with roots but hey thats why you ride it. CHALLENGE! Trails are very well maintained it is worth paying the 2 bucks for a great ride. Thanks Mr. Andrews! Folks please pay the 2 bucks. |

Tight, slow and tricky. Great place to practice new skills, or hone rusty ones. Not many places to get into trouble. Max speed around 20mph. The legnth is now 9+ miles. Great place to trail. Thank you Mr. Andrews. Please pay dues. |

Loved this trail, lots of speed and great opportunities for jumps, options offer some steep downhills, roots were not bad as long as you have front suspension (which everyone should by now anyway!). |

This is a great setup. I am a beginner and ride a M40 which might not be the best bike to rate this with but still.... Great jumps at the beginning and I like the rocky area in the middle. I have to stop a few times to catch my breath but well worth the effort to finish it out. I believe it is one heck of an accomplishement to ride any part of this trail. I met the owner, very pleasurable! |
